Tanger Gives Back

On Sunday, January 25, 2009, Upper Room Christian World Center was presented with a donation of $25,000.00 to Upper Room Christian School on behalf of Tanger Outlet Mall. While anyone in the community surrounding URCWC and URCS is quite familiar with the new outlet center, most are probably unaware of the center's partnership with URCWC.

URCWC partnered with Tanger Outlet Mall and the Blumenfeld Development Group two years ago and helped assemble leaders in the community as the process of building the mall was initiated. Today, this partnership grows, and as a token of their gratitude, the Director of Community Outreach of Tanger Outlet Mall, Judy White, along with New York State Assemblyman Andrew Raia, Town of Babylon Councilmen Lindsay Henry, Jacqueline Gordan, Carol Quirk, and Antonio Martinez, presented Pastor Samuel Hashim and Pastor Gregory P Eck, the Headmaster and Principal of URCS, with a generous donation of $25,000.00. On behalf of his colleagues Councilman Henry stated "we're so pleased to be part of the cooperative between Tanger and the community, and we especially want to thank Pastor Hashim and the entire Upper Room pastoral staff and congregation for the many wonderful things they do and the many lives they touch."

This partnership will continue with community outreaches. During a conversation with Pastor Hashim regarding the many outreach ministries at URCWC, the presenters were all in agreement- "Thank God these churches and organizations are there--giving, giving, giving." In addition to working together to benefit the community, the center will provide opportunities for URCWC's musical performances at the outlet mall. Tanger Outlet Mall is "very pleased to give back to the community that was so helpful to us and to move forward in a beneficial relationship."

Along with the donation to the school, Assemblyman Raia presented the congregation with a Proclamation honoring Bishop D'Onofrio, the pastors, and all of Upper Room for their hard work. Raia wanted to say thank you to URCWC for being a rock during troubled times. "God will always get us through." Raia frequently visits Upper Room, and says he is happy to be back. "It's a great place to pray."
