Upper Room Brings The Gospel to Asia

Pastor Bing Cheng and his family will begin a unique trip to Asia, unlike any Upper Room Christian World Center has seen in the past, on Saturday, June 27, 2009. Pastor Bing and his wife Teresa will be traveling with their two children, as well as Teresa’s mother, and will be abroad for approximately one month, returning July 22, 2009. Bringing the gospel to each country they visit, their tour includes Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Hong Kong.

This trip will be one part vacation, one part ministry. While in Indonesia, the Cheng’s will visit Teresa’s family, some of whom are of Buddhist background, and give them the opportunity to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. In addition, Pastor Bing passionately declares, “We also have a burden to help homeless and outcast children who live under the bridges. Our goal is to bring them out of their current situation and give them hope by providing them with food, shelter, and a Christian education. One day they will be back in society and used by God.”

The decision to take this trip was an easy one for Pastor Bing, as the family often travels, and Teresa was instrumental in putting it all together. They also traveled to Asia six years ago. Today, “Upper Room has played an important role in our lives. It motivates us and prepares us spiritually all the time. We are blessed to be a part of the Upper Room Pastoral Team, and our lives have moved to the next level because of it. The covering of Upper Room has made a difference.”

Pastor Bing felt both honored and humbled during last Sunday morning’s service as the Pastors rallied around the entire Cheng family for prayer and the laying on of hands before their departure. Part of Upper Room’s vision is to save souls, and the Cheng’s plan to do just that, starting with their immediate family in Asia. And “if the plan of saving those homeless children succeeds,” added Pastor Bing, “we might plan more trips in the future. We pray that God will use us mightily to glorify His name.”
